The Big Read

The Big Read - books you've read. I snagged this from Tin's site and found it very interesting. The directions are simple: 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. 4) Reprint this list in your own blog so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;) 1. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2. The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4. Harry Potter - JK Rowling 5. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6. The Bible - more or less 7. Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte 8. Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell 9. His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman 10. Great Expectations - Charles Dickens 11. Little Women - Louisa M Alcott 12. Tess of the D'Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy 13. Catch-22 - Joseph Heller 14. Complete Works of Shakespeare - I've read a lot but I swear I've forgotten most of it - was a Shakespeare fanatic back in high school 1...

Book Sale Find

Image
Found this interesting book from the Book Sale last Sunday while I was with my sister. I have started to read it and it's actually very informative. At 30 bucks, who would complain? LOL. Now I'm itching to go abroad with Zoe and Hunny! When kaya kami matutuloy? Anyway, I really plan to go back to that Book Sale outlet again to buy their collector's copy of Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh. Too bad coz I didn't bring more cash with me that day (my sister asked me to buy her loads of books for her birthday!). I just hope it's still there when I return.

Inside Zoe's Library - Thumbelina

Image
Here's my latest find from Books For Less. It's a SEE and SAY book version of Thumbelina. Zoe's has never owned anything like it. It's more challenging to read because you have to associate the pictures with the name or words. You got to have quick mind to be able to read the book properly to a child since it sounds weird if you still stop to think for a minute about what word is associated with the picture. Not only will it disrupt the flow of the story but it would also confuse the child. But it's still fun to read ya know. :-)

Be Smart. Be Organized.

During a random visit in National Bookstore last weekend, I chanced upon this book. Got it for only P169. I think it's a really good buy! Scanning through it, I found good advice regarding home organization. Really need more tips! My second blog " House Everything " is proof of this need and longing for me to set up a bright, cheerful and organized home. Photo credit here . I will definitely share some of the tips from this book in my other blog . Watch out for it. See you there.

The Current Readings Meme

The Rules: 1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages). 2. Open the book to page 123. 3. Find the fifth sentence. 4. Post the next three sentences. 5. Tag five people. Here's my current reading (got this just from Book Sale at 40 bucks) GOODBYES: HOW TO SAY "SEE YOU LATER" TO YOUR LITTLE ALLIGATOR by Nancy Hall and Peggy Schmidt. Book. 1996. Offers various schools of thought on handling separation, allowing parents to make the appropriate decision for their families. Page 123 falls under the Chapter Vacations and Business Trips "If you're under stress, putting off a vacation can be a mistake,: says Dr. Barbara Talent. "Most harmful of all is the parent who is wound up in her own problems and isn't interacting enough with her child," she says. Whether you feel you can handle being away from your child is an important consideration if the trip is optional rather than a necessity. HOW SO APPROPRIATE coz I'm so so stressed right now...plus I...

Inside Zoe's Library Part 1

Image
For several weeks now, I have been itching to blog about one-by-one the books which I have bought and regularly read to my daughter. Back in college, I truly enjoyed this elective I took in the UP College of Education. The subject was on Children's Literature and our professor then was Prof. Lina Diaz de Rivera, a Carlos Palance awardee. In one of our projects, she made us annotate at least 30 titles of children's books. Thus, this started my love for reading (and buying) children's books. So for my initial annotation (and I hope to make this brief), I've decided to feature Zoe's very first cloth book which was a gift from her Ninang Net from the States. This book is one from a series of soft books. It's entitled "Fluffy Chick and Friends". Zoe loves this book particularly because of the two-dimensional element in the book. It features different textures like a piece of felt cloth for the horse' hair, a towel-like cloth for the chick's body and...
